The Delhi government has decided to end the twice-a-week work-from-home arrangement for its employees, saying the geopolitical situation has largely returned to normal. The decision restores regular office attendance across government departments after weeks of precautionary measures.
The rollback reverses one of several administrative steps introduced earlier this year to reduce fuel consumption and ease pressure on transport networks amid global uncertainties linked to the West Asia conflict. A formal government order withdrawing the work-from-home arrangement is expected to be issued on Friday.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the withdrawal of work-from-home on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
“Now that the geopolitical situation has practically normalised, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved withdrawal of Work from Home on Wednesdays & Saturdays. The order will be issued today,” the CMO said.
Revised office timings for Delhi government employees
Alongside the policy change, the Delhi government has revised office timings for departments under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
Government offices will now function from 10 am to 6.30 pm.
The working hours for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will remain unchanged at 8.30 am to 5 pm.
Rollback of fuel-saving measures
The work-from-home arrangement formed part of a wider set of austerity and fuel conservation measures announced by the Delhi government in May.
At the time, the government had introduced two work-from-home days each week and launched a “Metro Monday” initiative that encouraged ministers and senior officials to use the Delhi Metro instead of official vehicles.
Other measures included a one-year suspension of official foreign visits by ministers and government officers, along with a six-month ban on purchasing new petrol, diesel, CNG or hybrid vehicles for government use.
The government had also appealed to residents to observe a weekly “No Vehicle Day” and encouraged institutions to conduct online hearings and lectures wherever possible to reduce travel.
With the government now describing the geopolitical situation as stable, regular office attendance has been restored, while staggered office timings will continue to help manage traffic across the Capital.
